Hatred, Attachment and Ignorance will get you every time. In Buddhism they are often referred to as ‘The Three Poisons’. In The Thirty-Seven Practices of the Bodhisattva they are shown to be quite deadly. In Judaism, Christianity and Islam these poisons are also no-no’s. Jesus, a prophet in Islam, the Savior in Christianity, a devout Jew and a Rabbi, constantly declared that we must love our enemies, be in this world but not of it and tried to educate people.

Education is the key to living a good life. Our world is in such terrible trouble because ‘Education’ has come to mean training yourself to make a living: ‘The facts mam nothing but the facts’. But facts do not educate our hearts, our souls, or our spirits. Compassion, understanding, love, tolerance and balance are what we need to educate our hearts, souls, and spirits. We need to find Woman Wisdom who cries at the city gates.
I do not believe it matters at all from whom you take your teachings. The Three Poisons are a common human failing and people from every tradition have found ways to eradicate them. What matters is that you or I, find a tradition we are comfortable in and learn from it.
Once we have ingested the teachings we need to transform the knowledge into wisdom. This is done through meditation. Meditation is a big word that simply means ‘thinking deeply’. Here I should point out that Wisdom is not gained easily nor quickly. Thankfully this is not an all or nothing situation. Every step we take moves us closer to our goal and we become a better person. The ultimate step is called ‘Putting it Into Practice’. James, the brother of Jesus puts it this way;
“What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.”

As I understand James he believed that true spirituality always resulted in a person offering a helping hand.
Offered out of love, generosity and wisdom.
Hatred, Attachment and Ignorance are indeed the Three Poisons.
Thankfully There is an antidote.
Love, Generosity, Wisdom
