|Roy Henry Vickers: Eagle Heart|
36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” 37 And He said to him, “ ‘ You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’38 This is the great and [a]foremost commandment. 39 The second is like it, ‘ You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.”
Allow me to suggest another option; we can show our love of G-d by accepting our proper place in Her creation. Our place, in my understanding of scripture is ‘Steward’. We were created from and return to the Earth. Between these two poles of our lives we are supposed to tend the garden and all that live and grow within the boundaries.
As all that live have the same Mother Earth and Father G-d we are all related. This makes the second command somewhat easier because our neighbiur is indeed our kin no matter how far away they live nor the shape they take.
Are you with me so far? We are Stewards and to tend the garden and all that inhabit it is our role. We are servants not kings. We are nurturers not destroyers. We were created to be Friend of all. Regrettably we forgot our place, got uppity and became the enemy of all;
Genesis 9:2-3 The fear and dread of you will fall on all the beasts of the earth, and on all the birds in the sky, on every creature that moves along the ground, and on all the fish in the sea; they are given into your hands. Everything that lives and moves about will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything.
