‘Singapore: The United States will shift a majority of its warships to the Asia-Pacific region by 2020, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said on Saturday, giving the first details of a new US military strategy.’
The South China Sea (as some call the contested area) is home to the Spratley Islands. These islands are small inoffensive little hunks of land barely above sea level. They do however sit on top of oil and natural gas reserves that everyone wants.
This is the reason that the U.S. is re-positioning its naval power. Australia and Japan have also entered the fray. Other S.E. Asia countries are scrambling for some of the oil and gas. One of two things will happen in the South China Sea. Either China and the States will find a way to share the Black Death or they will engage in a limited but deadly war.
Either the world creates an alternative to oil and soon or
the world will go to war over dwindling oil reserves.
